Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)
What is 3-D Secure (Verified by Visa or MasterCard SecureCode)?
The 3D-Secure security procedure verifies that the person placing the order is actually the owner of the credit card.
- The cardholder registers with their bank for 3-D Secure. When doing so, the cardholder sets a password and a security hint.
- When purchasing online, the customer selects the desired products or services, adds them to the basket, and, after specifying the payment method, enters their credit card details.
- They are then redirected to a web page belonging to their bank, on which they enter their personal password. The customer is also shown their specified security hint on the password entry page.
- The bank verifies the password, and then approves the transaction. Both merchants and cardholders thereby have the peace of mind of knowing that the identity of both parties has been verified. In a sense, the password thereby replaces the signature used for over-the-counter purchases.
